Lab49 Capital : A Real-time Portfolio Management Application
DISCLAIMER:The application is similar in nature to a number of real client projects but has been re-branded to provide client anonymity and to prevent disclosure of client data.
"Lab49 Capital" is a buy-side application that allows portfolio managers and trade operations teams to track the real-time performance of their funds from their Apple iPhone OS 2.0 devices. It allows users to "slice and dice" positions, P&L, and portfolios changes across multiple dimensions such as strategy, industry, country and manager.
Watch and listen as Lab49 Director Marc Jacobs provides a detailed walk-through of the application in a recently recorded screencast. Click here for a transcript of the screencast.
The functionality is also described below. Click on each image below to see each screen in more detail.

Lab49 Capital Home Page
The home shows the real time P&L for the fund, the change in dollar amount since the beginning of the trading day, as well as the change in percent, and the time of last update. This graph, also updated in real-time, is a contribution graph that shows those positions that have advanced since the beginning of the trading day, those that have declined, and those that have held relatively steady. There is also a line graph that shows the percentage change since the beginning of the trading day. The graph can be zoomed in by rotating the device into landscape mode.

Lab49 Capital By Strategy
There are several different ways of drilling into the P&L such as by strategy. For each category in a strategy, there is a set of contribution graphs showing the relative advancers, decliners and steadies for that particular strategy. The screen shows the percentage change for each strategy, but the list can be re-sorted by total outright position, change in dollar amount, or change in percent. Also, there is a fine watermark right behind the categories in light blue. This shows the relative contribution of each strategy towards the fund in total dollar amount.

Lab49 Capital By Strategy - Graph
From the Strategy pages, the device can be turned onto its side to show a bubble chart that shows the change in percent for the day on the X-axis and change in percent for month-to-date on the Y-axis. The size of the bubble indicates the relative total position for that strategy, and the pie chart is an alternate way of viewing the contribution graph that appears on the previous view.
