1. Waters Open Platform: “Concurrency: Take Control or Fail”
Lab49’s Daniel Simon, writing in Waters Magazine, warns that new trends in hardware demand the adoption of parallel programming throughout the financial enterprise; firms need to start getting up to speed now, or risk falling behind. Read the article online here.
2. Java Article: “Java + multicore = good news”, Software Development Times
This developer-focused article by Lab49’s Avik Sengupta discusses the challenges in developing modern, high-performance Java systems on today’s multi-core processors and reviews some industry initiatives and trends around parallel programming in Java. The full article can be read online here.
3. Event: Harvard Business School's Cyberposium
Lab49's Vivake Gupta spoke at Harvard Business School's Cyberposium on November 15, 2008. Vivake was on the "Financial Technology: Next-generation Finance" panel to discuss the key trends that are changing the world of finance.
4. Event: Advanced Algorithmic Trading Panel
Lab49’s Luke Flemmer moderated a panel on advanced algorithmic trading at Waters USA 2008 on December 8. The panel included executives from Weeden & Co, Goldman Sachs, Quod Financial, Fenimore Asset Management, and Credit Suisse. Topics addressed included algorithmic trading and accessing dark pools; smart order routing; operating across asset classes; achieving low execution costs; and the pursuit of alpha. 5. WPF Video: “WPF and Model-View-ViewModel”
Lab49’s Jason Dolinger has released a video presentation describing how to architect your WPF applications that take best advantage of the platform’s new capabilities. Jason started with a traditional application, then shows how using WPF data-binding, Commands, and Unity, he transformed it, piece by piece, into a much more manageable, encapsulated, readable, and testable design.
