Lab49 Update: July - September 2008

Here’s a brief update on some of Lab49’s activities during the third quarter of 2008:

1. Algorithmic Trading article: “Low Latency”, Advanced Trading Magazine

In a recent article in Advanced Trading magazine, Lab49’s Vivake Gupta discusses how, in the hunt for latency and in the race to get more data flowing more quickly through trading systems, we seem to have forgotten to take into account the most influential and pervasive users of that data: the traders themselves. 2. Hedge Fund article: “Prime Broking: Single vs. Multiple”, The Hedge Fund Journal

The July/August issue of the Hedge Fund Journal includes a piece by Lab49's Daniel Chait and Risk Advisor's Sanjay Bharwani that helps hedge funds understand the issues when switching from single to multiple prime brokerage relationships. The article can be read here.

Lab49's Ross Hamilton and Joe Morrison discuss how business customers can play a role in IT teams delivering better software more frequently and reliably. The article can be read online here.

5. SOA article, “How to get over the SOA hangover: new design processes”, FX&MM Magazine

Lab49's David Elliman takes stock of Service Oriented Architectures in terms of design, implementation and governance perspectives. David also discusses how TOGAF, RUP/openUP and agile development help or hinder the process. The article can be read online here.

6. Solution: Lab49 Capital iPhone Application

Lab49 Capital is an application that allows portfolio managers and trade operations teams to track the real-time performance of their funds from their Apple iPhone OS 2.0 devices. It allows users to "slice and dice" positions, P&L, and portfolios changes across multiple dimensions such as strategy, industry, country and manager. 7. Event: DataSynapse Align08 Conference
